Movies That Will Make You Cry

These are the movies that no matter how many times I watch them, I still cry. I’m not doing animal movies, because they make me cry no matter what.

The Five Pennies (1959, Paramount) stars Danny Kaye as Red Nichols, a real jazz musician. It’s a biography, but who knows what’s real. I love the song, Five Pennies. It’s a glimpse into what a parent would do for their child. Danny Kaye got to do his impersonation of Louis Armstrong, who is also in the movie. Red’s wife was played be Barbara Bel Geddes. It’s a good movie, and you should cry.

P.S. I Love You (2007, Warner Brothers) Hilary Swank stars in the movie along with Gerard Butler and Harry Connick, Jr. If I say too much, I’ll give the plot away. Just make sure you have tissues. There are beautiful shots of Ireland’s countryside.

Radio Flyer (1992, Columbia Pictures) This is a story of brothers played by Joseph Mazzello and Elijah Wood. I will warn of the child abuse. Lorraine Bracco plays the mother, she does not administer the abuse.

What Dreams May Come (1998, Polygram Filmed Entertainment and Interscope Communications) This is a BEAUTIFUL movie. Robin Williams was brilliant. Annabella Sciorra and Cuba Gooding, Jr also gave an amazing performance. I cannot say much more or I will give away key plot points.

Miracle of the Bells (1948, Jesse L Lasky Productions) This is a rare and unknown/underrated movie that when I can catch it, I watch it. Fred MacMurray is a talent agent and brings a star back to her hometown. The star is Alida Valli (listed as Valli on the credits). The priest in the parish she was a part of is played by Frank Sinatra. I’m not usually a fan of Frank, but he was great in this movie.
